
Dr. Martha Garrett-Shaver provides comprehensive family care across all stages of life. Her expertise spans obstetrics and women’s health, acute and chronic illness management, and disease diagnosis and treatment. She emphasizes preventive healthcare through routine checkups, screenings, health risk assessments, and personalized education to empower patients in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Garrett-Shaver earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 2000, then completed her family medicine residency at AHEC South Arkansas in El Dorado, where she served as chief resident in her final year in 2003. With 15 years of experience in graduate medical education, she has played a vital role in training and mentoring future healthcare professionals. In 2024, Dr. Garrett-Shaver joined UAMS as Physician, Associate Professor, and Core Faculty, bringing her expertise in family medicine, obstetrics, and women’s health to the next generation of physicians.
Before embarking on her medical journey, Dr. Garrett-Shaver explored a variety of interests, including serving as vice president for Arkansas-based companies and teaching science at the secondary school level. Her contributions extend beyond clinical care, as she actively participates in committees such as the Clinic Advisory Committee, Department Heads Committee, and Peer Review Committee at nearby South Arkansas Regional Hospital. Dr. Garrett-Shaver is dedicated to advancing community health through evidence-based care, collaborative medical practices, and her ongoing commitment to graduate medical education and mentorship.
