Dr. Diorella Lopez-Gonzalez serves as the lead faculty and site director for the PGY-1 year at UAMS in Little Rock. She joined the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine in 2023 as an Assistant Professor, bringing a strong commitment to medical education and community health. Originally from Caguas, Puerto Rico, she earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences, St. Kitts, in 2019, before completing her family medicine residency at UAMS Little Rock. During her residency, she distinguished herself as Chief Resident (2022–2023) and Community Medicine Liaison (2021–2022).
Her commitment to scholarship is demonstrated through her numerous contributions, including eight national poster presentations and a national publication. She actively engages in community outreach through her volunteer work at the UAMS 12th Street Health and Wellness Center, where she has served since August 2023. Recognized for her excellence in education and professionalism, Dr. Lopez-Gonzalez has received multiple awards, including the Red Sash Award (2024), Outstanding Resident Award (2023), TOP Award for Outstanding Professional (2023), AFMRD Family Medicine Resident Award for Scholarship (2023), STAR Professionalism Award (2022), and the Medical Knowledge Award (2021).
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Lopez-Gonzalez enjoys cooking, baking, reading, and exploring art and history. She also loves trying new restaurants with her husband and traveling with her family, especially visiting museums. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she brings a dynamic and inclusive perspective to patient care and medical education.
