Accredited in April 2025, our program focuses on full-scope family medicine, with a unique emphasis obstetrics. You gain hands-on experience through an unopposed residency, personalized rotations aligned with your interests, and comprehensive procedural training tailored to rural healthcare needs. Building our Cohort
We welcome four new residents each year starting in July 2026, gradually expanding our program to reach a full cohort of twelve by the 2028-2029 academic year.
Residency Overview
Unopposed Residency in PGY-2 and PGY-3
As a PGY-2 and PGY-3 resident, you train in an unopposed setting, giving you the opportunity to develop advanced skills across the broad scope of family medicine. This setting provides the opportunity to collaborate with experienced faculty and specialists, fostering independence and confidence in patient care.
Tailored Rotations Based on Your Interests
Dr. Watson and Faculty are committed to helping you explore your specific interests and connect you with rotation experiences that align with your professional goals. Whether you are drawn to women’s health, rural medicine, or procedural training, we support you in gaining the experiences that matter most to you.
Women’s Health & Obstetrics
Your training will take place at South Arkansas Regional Hospital and South Arkansas Women’s Clinic, which sees approximately 600 deliveries annually and serves as the leading provider of obstetric care in South Arkansas. Our core faculty actively practice and teach obstetrics and women’s health, ensuring you gain direct exposure to:
- Normal spontaneous vaginal deliveries
- Assisted deliveries
- Surgical OB procedures (Caesarean sections)
You also have the opportunity to train with Dr. Watson’s partners, experienced OBGYNs, to broaden your experience and learn from a variety of teaching perspectives.
Procedural Training
Throughout the program, you receive hands-on experience in a broad scope of procedures tailored to rural healthcare needs, ensuring that you are well-prepared to serve diverse patient population.
