Why Choose UAMS West?
When I was searching for a residency program I wanted something that felt like home, and that’s exactly what I got with UAMS West. Not only are we focused on taking care of our patients, we are focused on taking care of each other. We work unopposed in the second largest city in the state, which is unique in its own right. The city is surrounded on all sides by rural communities, meaning we see patients from every cultural background and walk of life. Having grown up here I have a vested interest in the health of this community and I take pride in being part of such a strong team that has the same goal in mind.

UAMS West is one of the most well-rounded programs for Family Medicine training. You will get a thorough inpatient medicine and obstetrical experience, work closely with specialists, and have the ability to learn and conduct many procedures right in the outpatient clinical setting. Right from the beginning I felt at ease when I saw how experienced the faculty were and how cohesively the residents worked with each other to provide care for their patients. I feel confident that I will be well prepared for the next step in my career. UAMS West has given me so much more than just teaching me how to become a family doctor. I have made great, lifelong friendships with my colleagues, have had enriching experiences in and out of the hospital, and have truly enjoyed my time exploring great cities surrounding Fort Smith, the local sites and beautiful, natural state that surrounds this area. I look forward to the day where I can proudly say I trained here for residency!

UAMS West has been great for both my personal and professional growth.
Being in an unopposed program has allowed me to work closely with attendings on every service. From learning the clinical workflow, to performing procedural skills, this program is preparing me to be a well rounded Family Physician.
I have recently joined the new POCUS Ultrasound curriculum and have set my sights on the ER fellowship at our hospital after graduation. In my free time, I try to get outside or hike one of the many trails that Arkansas has to offer. My wife and I just bought our first house and and will be calling Fort Smith home for some time!
