As part of the AHEC Scholars Program, students may choose to enroll in the AHEC Scholars Elective during their senior year.

This self-paced, longitudinal course is designed to provide students with a strong understanding of the importance of quality improvement, population health and value-based care, and highly marketable leadership skills and tools necessary to promote change within their future practices.

In conjunction with work and resources from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the UAMS Institute for Digital Health and Innovation, this course offers modules in:

  • Quality Improvement
  • Patient Safety
  • Person- and Family-Centered Care
  • Leadership in Healthcare
  • Triple/Quadruple Aim

Following completion of required didactic material, students will conduct a 36-hour research project facilitated by a UAMS faculty/staff member.

FMED 8449: AHEC Scholars is offered in the spring semester and counts as two credit hours (72 contact hours).
