Program Director’s Message
Our first question for each new doctor considering our residency is, “What type of family doctor do you want to be?” Whether you seek to work in a clinic-based practice, as a hospitalist, in a rural emergency department, or even provide full-scope family medicine including surgical obstetrics, our program is designed to help you achieve your goals. With personalized learning plans, extensive electives, and strong community support and mentorship, you gain the practical experience needed to practice confidently in any setting. Built on collaboration with our locally owned hospital, South Arkansas Regional Hospital, UAMS, and the UAMS Family Medical Center, we strive to meet the needs of rural Arkansans by recruiting, training, and retaining physicians who feel called to serve in rural areas, helping close the healthcare gaps many patients experience.

Our residents experience the advantages of two training settings! PGY1 is spent with the UAMS College of Medicine’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Little Rock, learning in a high-volume environment with specialist faculty, building a strong educational foundation before transitioning to El Dorado for PGY2-3. Once in El Dorado, you will get comprehensive, full-scope family medicine training with an emphasis on obstetrics in an unopposed environment. Physicians with this skill set are in great demand. When you finish our program, you will be prepared to practice anywhere and become the doctor you want to be!
El Dorado offers small-town charm and a strong sense of community, surrounded by timberlands, rivers, and natural beauty, making it the perfect backdrop for your training experience. We understand the importance of choosing the right residency and are here to help you determine if our program meets your goals. We appreciate your consideration of our unique program and what we offer you in the development of your ultimate professional goals.
