Non-UAMS Patron Use of Facilities

While UAMS Southwest encourages use from members of the community, we limit the nature of use to medical research purposes. Patients from UAMS and other clinics are welcome to use the resources available to aid in medical decision making. The library is also available to students from other colleges and universities. Proof of student ID may be required.  At times the library may be closed to the public for UAMS faculty or student use only. Please call 870-779-6023 for more information.

Cell Phones

Due to the nature of our patrons, cell phones are allowed in the library. However, we ask that those needing to use their cell phone to please do so outside, as conversations may be disruptive to others in the library.

Children under the age of 16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. A photo ID may be required to verify date-of-birth. The UAMS AHEC SW Library does not maintain collections or provide services intended for children. All public-access computers have full access to the internet. There are not content filters to prevent children from accessing inappropriate material.

Computers and Internet Usage

Computer use is restricted to UAMS faculty, staff and students, library subscribers, and visitors seeking health related information.

We ask that all patrons be considerate of others and keep noise to a minimum. Creating excessive noise by conversation, audio devices, and cell phones is discouraged. Loitering or use of the library for non-medical/research purposes is not allowed.

Library staff will contact Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department concerning any criminal behavior in library areas.

Emergency Evacuations and Drills

In the event of an emergency or an emergency drill, the library must be evacuated. Patrons should exit the library through the main exit or the emergency exit located at the rear or the library and remain in the parking lot until further directions are given.

Fines on Overdue Materials

There is a charge of $.25 per item, per day, for overdue materials. Lost or stolen materials will be billed at replacement cost. Refusal to comply with this policy may result in loss of library privileges..

Food and Drink

Drinks with lids are allowed in all areas of the library. Food is allowed in the conference room only.

Gifts and Donations

The library accepts donated materials and financial contributions.
Donated materials not needed for the local collection may be given to other libraries, sold, or destroyed.
