Nursing Education – College of Nursing

The Nursing Education Program at UAMS South is a branch of the College of Nursing at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. UAMS is Arkansas’ only institution of professional and graduate education devoted solely to the health and biological sciences. Through distance education venues, UAMS South makes academic programs available to nurses who wish to pursue the Bachelor, Master, PhD or DNP degree programs in nursing. The UAMS College of Nursing was established in 1953.

The Department of Nursing Education as part of UAMS South recognizes that professional development in nursing is a lifelong process of active participation in learning activities that assist in developing and maintaining continuing competence, enhancing professional practice, and supporting achievement of career goals. The department supports the mission and program goals through collaboration with the health care community to provide continuing education programs for the professional development of nurses, as well as enhanced access to college courses through distance education programs for RN’s seeking a BSN or MNSc to prepare for professional practice, advanced practice, teaching, and administrative roles thereby enhancing health care for the people in South Arkansas.
