Health Coaching Program

The Mission

Health Coaching students work one on one with real patients at UAMS Family Medical Center – Jonesboro. Together, the patient and health coach establish goals to achieving a healthier lifestyle and discuss ways to consistently follow a care plan to better manage their chronic illnesses. This is a partnership between UAMS Northeast Regional Programs and Arkansas State University.

The Team

Students work with an interdisciplinary team made up of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, behavioral health specialists and more to gain a better understanding of health care systems, preparing them for a future in professional health care school.

Program Topics

During the program, students will learn about a variety of topics in healthcare such as ethics, community medicine and the law, depression and anxiety, barriers to proper care, cardiovascular disease, home care, nutrition and diabetes.

Weekly Visits

Students selected for the program will make in-home visits to their assigned patient on a weekly basis. For student and patient safety, careful screening and precautions are taken to select patients and students best suited for one another and would benefit from this effort.
